CAT Scan Technologist Outpatient

Position Summary:

The CT Technologist performs routine and specialized imaging procedures, prepares patients, assists radiologists, operates and maintains equipment, processes images, and adheres to established radiology standards. They apply radiation protection principles to minimize exposure and assume responsibility for assigned areas and duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Preparation and Positioning: Correctly prepare and position patients for specific examinations, ensuring proper documentation.

Image Quality Assurance: Produce high-quality images, reviewing completed exams for accuracy and completeness.

Physician Assistance: Assist physicians during procedures as necessary.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform quality assurance and calibrations; report equipment issues to appropriate staff.

Emergency Response: Adapt to emergent procedures or situations within the department.

Administrative Duties: Handle routine office tasks, including answering phones, checking previous reports/films, and documenting patient information in hospital systems.

Communication: Notify transport when patients are ready; professionally communicate with patients and family members.

Patient Care: Provide care tailored to the age, physical, and psychosocial needs of various patient populations.

Supply Management: Ensure necessary medical-surgical supplies are ordered, circulated properly to avoid expiration, and stocked for all cases in each designated area/modality.

Professional Development: Attend staff meetings and in-services; may be assigned as instructor or preceptor.

Additional Duties: Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited radiography program.

New York State Department of Health Licensure or Limited Permit required.

ARRT registered (RT) and/or (CT) certified; NMTCB registered (CNMT) preferred.

Passing advanced CT examination/certification within 1 year from date of hire.

Continuing education requirements: 24 ECE credits over a two-year period.

BLS certification through the American Heart Association required or must be completed within 90 days of hire.

Radiation dose pledge for both Image Gently and Image Wisely through the American College of Radiology (ACR) will be performed during the orientation process and before the end of the probationary period.
