Job Summary and Qualifications
The Nurse Manager for Mother/Baby Care Unit accepts responsibility for all department functions in support of the mission, vision, values and facility goals.
The Nurse Manager is an RN and accepts responsibility for critical thinking decisions within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act.
Accepts responsibility for patient safety of the Postpartum and Newborn Nursery practice environments.
Integrate the management of information and effective communication skills in daily practice.
Build on the ANA Standards of Care and Standards of Professional Practice [1].
Serve as liaison to foster a partnership with the patient and significant others.
Construct decisions to support the continuity of care and the coordination of care across the care settings.
Recognize the role of the manager to maintain high quality age & developmental specific care for the infant to adult populations.
Create Women’s Health specific initiatives and process improvement.
Integrate collaborative practice and working relationships with all members of the healtFacilityre team.
Accept responsibility for management of multiple levels of personnel (including supervisory positions), payroll, budget, capital, business plan, and physician relationships.
Serve as liaison for hospital, community and other institutions.
Organize / Supervise human and material resources.
Other duties as assigned.
What qualifications you will need:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years (Would be open to 2 years if the candidate has Supervisor level experience managing the responsibilities of people and engagement in Process improvements) RECENT ACUTE CARE LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE IN Mother Baby Unit Required
Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
Advanced degree, preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact license required.
Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider card.
NRP Required.

Is there anything specific the HM is looking for besides from the JD? The most important role for this position is for the individual to have a strong Mother Baby background and the ability to lead a large team.
What is the support system for this role? For example, Charge Nurses & Supervisors that help support the leader. The department has 4 CNCs who directly support the Manager and there are also relief charge nurses
Who does this position report to? Chris Croteau, AVP Women’s Services
Why is the position open? 1 position is to backfill a tenured leaders retirement; 1 is to add leadership support and support span of control for the leader
How long has it been open? One since 6/12/24 & one since 8/17/24
How many FTEs in the unit? 79.2
What additional departments are they over? Lactation
What are the qualities that you like and dislike in candidates that you have seen so far? No candidates for the position so far.
Who will be on the interview with them? They will interview with the AVP for the initial interview and if they appear to be a fit based on experience and interview, they would come for panel interviews with staff, managers, directors, physicians, and CNO.
Who has final say on hiring? Feedback from the interview panels is taken into consideration and will be used for the hiring decision.
